It has been a long time since Inter Miami fans saw Lionel Messi line up for their side. His last appearance came in a 3-3 draw against St. Louis at the beginning of June, and he has since been busy winning the Copa America with the Argentina Men’s National Team.
Messi injury update
Even that historic win was tough for Messi though as he had to watch on from the sidelines after being forced off early with a serious ankle injury.
Now, with attention in US soccer turning to Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup game against Columbus Crew, fans want to know what his fitness situation is.
Messi injury update
Unfortunately for fans of football and, specifically, Inter Miami, Messi‘s situation isn’t great, at least as per coach Gerardo Martino.
As reported by Claudio on X/Twitter, the latest information coming out of the Inter Miami camp is that Messi took part in another individual gym session, and Martino didn’t give a return date.
It is expected that Messi will remain out of action until early September though, meaning he will have gone three months without wearing that newly-famous pink shirt.
Inter Miami transfer news
In more positive news for Inter Miami, they are being linked with signing Cesar Montes, an international with Mexico and someone that coach Martino knows well from their time there together.
Keen to sign a centre-back to complete their squad, Montes is seen as the man to get and Martino is a big fan of his.
“Everything I have to say about him is positive, as a footballer and also on a personal and professional level,” Martino said of Montes.
“I like him a lot, but I have nothing more to say. One thing is what I think of Cesar and another is the possibilities that we have.”
So, although Messi’s fitness isn’t improving as fast as they would like, Inter Miami fans do have something to be optimistic and happy about.
